David Martin
Did really well against Chelsea.
Good support from the defense, but that’s a two way street.
And then the emotion that showed how much he cares about the club and doing his best. You cannot buy that.

I could not find a signing on thread? Spend about an hour looking. We never even had one?

Weird how it took so long to drop Roberto.

The Spanish connection was hard to cut for Pellegrini and star.,

Don't think it was weird. Roberto is an established first team keeper. Martin has only played at a lower level. He was protected by a willing defence yesterday in a way that Roberto never has been. Martin was a risk. Roberto was a disaster. Rock, hard place.

Joe Martin must be feeling left out... literally, as he's not even on the bench for Northampton vs Notts County in the Cup

If our defence had been as willing to protect Roberto, I'm sure we'd be looking back at some rather different results. (But I'm still delighted for Martin Jr and Martin Sr.)

Got to have the run of games until Fabianski comes back now.

Sometimes these things are just about mentality and confidence. The defence, and probably the whole team, had so clearly lost confidence in Roberto. You could sense it every time he came for a cross or tried to punch the ball away. Just watch the defenders eyes and motion around him - they revert to panic mode because he so regularly made mistakes.

Martin acted calmly and made good, rational decisions about then to leave his line and, then, when to punch the ball away and when to try to catch. His defenders fancies a bit of that and their confidence grew with his.

As somebody said, it's a two-way street. But you saw the reaction of the players at the end. They protected their goalkeeper and he rewarded them with a clean sheet. Builds confidence and belief.

It has to be Martin from here on in. Try to get some momentum and confidence behind that back five or six.

The defence and the keeper don't exist in hermetically sealed separate worlds.

The keeper affects the confidence and organisation of the defence.

The defence was good under Martin and Fabianski (at least compared to the shambles with Roberto).

How the fuck is anyone defending the manager for playing Roberto?

He is worst keeper I've ever seen at the top level, and he certainly wasn't a regular the season before he joined us. I watched 30 seconds of Youtube footage to know what sort of keeper we were signing, said as much at the time, and I'm not being paid millions of pounds a year to judge these things. It wasn't a hard call, it was plainly obvious.

The manager takes 100% of the blame for playing him in as many games as he did, it's beyond shocking.

I have to agree with this prick ED. He looked bad before the season even started. He made howlers as soon as he got a game in the league, which can happen but what sort of prick still plays the cunt when he's made howlers 5 games in a row?

Bizarre from Pellegrini. Great to see Martin come in yesterday and be rewarded with a clean sheet. Looked like it meant a lot to him too. I don't think he's a good keeper but he's got to be in front of fucking Roberto.

Re: David Martin
I was surprised that Roberto was on the bench yesterday. If his confidence wasn't already shot, it certainly would have been after being dropped, so he shouldn't have been anywhere near the team. I heard Anang was training with the first team so maybe they just thought it was too soon to put him on the bench. Either way, there's probably no point keeping Roberto now - shift him in January if possible.

Coffee - Utter shite. He should have been dropped 2 games back, any fool could see that. The fact that OTB agrees with you should tell you a lot about your post.

Re: David Martin
I can see what coffee is saying, he was always going to get a chance to 'find his feet' that said he was REALLY bad. I feel sorry for the bloke, he might be a really nice guy but he managed to become the worst goalkeeper I have seen in a West Ham shirt within a handful of games.

Fair play to Martin stepped up. Added bonus that he is clearly popular in the team and hopefully the win will have helped the mood a lot.

Was chatting to a friend who reffed a load of games at West Ham (UP & CH).

His verdict was that he was a decent bloke but a crap outfield player, which is why he took on the goalkeeping role.

The better choice but will never be Fabianski.

Let's just be supportive when he fucks up.
